Industry context in "Phase One of 140th Canton Fair Closes — AI Hardware Penetration Hits 92%". This article retrospectively reviews each of the 18 clients we served during this Phase One — all real firms, no composite cases. Industry spread: Shenzhen (7), Dongguan (3), Foshan (1) across new energy, medical devices, ceramics, electronic components and home furnishings.

Phase One client breakdown: MTPE represents 61% of demand across 18 clients

MTPE post-editing: 11 clients — profiles, volume, pricing

Eleven MTPE clients. Five in new energy (energy storage cabinets, motors, vehicle components), three in medical devices, two in electronic components, one in home furnishings. Average 3.2 MTPE jobs per client, each being a 45-90 minute buyer meeting captured on AI glasses or a dual-screen machine. Each job delivered as a bilingual Chinese-English minutes transcript. Average editorial effort: about 12 hours per job — not full translation from scratch, but correction of terminology errors, tone alignment and reconstruction of sections the machine missed. We charged 1,500-1,800 yuan per job, for a combined revenue of approximately 62,000 yuan across the 11 MTPE clients.

Three recurring pain points among these clients: termbase mismatch — the Shenzhen new-energy firm whose "secondary aluminium die casting" was rendered as "recycled aluminium die casting", two fundamentally different industry terms; accent filtering — Middle Eastern buyers' heavy English accents caused the machine to garble proper nouns, "Aramco" becoming "Arabco", making the transcript unusable without human correction; and meeting pace — a single buyer negotiating with four suppliers simultaneously caused the machine's speaker segmentation to collapse, requiring manual reconstruction before editing.

Our workflow: client sends video the same or next day after the fair → automatic termbase matching (we maintain a 6,000-entry Canton Fair termbase across all 13 categories) → terminology errors highlighted → domain-senior translator assigned (mechanical, electronics, new energy, medical on rotation) → first draft in 12 hours → client confirmation → archival delivery. Eight of the 11 MTPE clients signed "Phase Two priority cooperation agreements" — Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American buyers expected at Phase Two will have even lower English proficiency, meaning higher hardware adoption and higher error rates.

Legal translation: 5 clients — two carry scars from the previous fair

Five legal translation clients. Three in new-energy vehicle components, two in medical devices. Two of the five had bad experiences with AI-translated contracts at the previous Canton Fair: one German buyer's legal team caught "force majeure" rendered as "force majeure event" — the former is a statutory exemption under EU law, the latter a generic incident with no such effect — and the contract value was forced down by 8%; one US buyer caught "confidentiality clause" rendered as "secrecy clause" — in US law the two are legally distinct, "secrecy" being a colloquial term that does not create a binding obligation. All five clients this round explicitly required double-proofreading by professional translator plus registered lawyer. Each contract averaged 2.4 bilingual pages (around 900 Chinese characters, 750 English words), priced at 2,500-4,000 yuan per contract, total revenue approximately 16,000 yuan.

One detail matters here: every legal term in our templates carries a brief legal-note annotation — "damages" versus "compensation" are applied differently under EU law and US common law, and every critical term includes a line indicating which legal system it follows. None of the five clients this round had terms seized for price negotiation again.

Certified translation stamp: 2 clients — highest unit price, tightest turnaround

Two certified translation stamp clients: one Guangzhou medical device firm (German distributor requires a certified German version of the certificate of origin and CIQ inspection form), one Foshan tile firm (Australian construction client requires a certified English version of the contract to be admissible in federal court). Both clients arrived on the final afternoon of the fair — only after all negotiations are complete do firms know which documents the buyer will actually require. Customs or local agents typically need them within a week of the client flying home, so our standard service is: manuscript received in the morning, translation plus stamp completed the same day, express shipped the next. Unit prices: 3,800 yuan and 5,200 yuan, the highest single-job values in this batch.

Both clients had signed similar contracts at the previous Canton Fair and tried to use a university language student's uncertified translation — customs rejected it outright. This round they had the stamp requirement written into the purchase contract before even arriving at the fair.
